12/9/13 Second Creek Trailhead break-ins
We regret to inform our hut users that we have had reports of break-ins at the Second Creek trailhead off of Berthoud Pass. This trailhead services the Broome Hut and is also a very popular area for day skiers. This area sees a lot of traffic and it is extremely important that hut users make sure to not leave any valuables visible in their car while at the hut. The Grand Huts Association is working with the Forest Service to step up trailhead patrols and is also exploring the possibility of installing cameras at the trailhead parking area. We hope this is a one-time event, but in any case, please be sure to lock your vehicles and don't leave anything of value in sight.

12/4/13 Harry Gates Hut Trail reroute
Please note that the alignment of the first mile of trail to the Harry Gates Hut from the Montgomery Flats Trailhead has been changed. Hut visitors departing from the Montgomery Flats Trailhead (located approximately 26 miles up the Fryingpan Road from Basalt) will now access the trail by skiing 200 yards northwest (downvalley) from the parking area to the old corral, then heading north (uphill). The new route is marked with blue diamonds but patience and diligent route-finding skills will be useful. This new alignment is located entirely on public US Forest Service lands. Please be aware of nearby private lands and respect private property.
