FOWLER - HILLIARD HUT


Sited at timberline about one-half mile northeast of Resolution Mountain, Fowler-Hilliard has incredible views and acres of gladed ski terrain. The hut was built in 1988 with funds from over 260 people and businesses. It is a memorial to Ann Fowler and Ed Hilliard, climbers who died in an accident on North Maroon Peak near Aspen.

Hut Elevation: 11,500'

Layout and capacity: Upstairs: 1 room with a double bed, 1 room with 4 single beds, and 10 single beds in a communal sleeping area. Capacity 16.

Hut Location: Fowler-Hilliard Hut is located in a group of high mountains about 6 miles west of Vail Pass, in central Colorado. [locator map]

Vail Pass Winter Recreation Area Fee
This hut is located in the Vail Pass Winter Recreation Area. Use of this hut during most of the winter requires payment of additional fees to the U.S. Forest service that will be charged at the time you make your reservation. This is not a parking fee; it applies regardless of which trailhead is used. The $6.00 per person per night fee is in effect from 11/21/07 though 4/30/08, children 14 and under are free.
