TAGERT & GREEN WILSON HUTS

Tagert Hut, Alfred Braun Memorial Hut System
Tagert Hut, with Slate Mountain rising to the north.

Tagert Hut is named in honor of Bill Tagert, one of the early skiers in the area. The original Tagert Hut was a dam tender's cabin built on approximately the same spot, and used by early skiers. It burned and was replaced with the existing structure. The Greene Wilson Hut was built in 1978 in memory of Lu Lynn Green Wilson. Both the Tagert and Green Wilson huts were fully renovated in 1999.

Hut Elevation: Tagert 11,250 feet; Green Wilson 11,280 feet.

Layout and capacity: All Braun huts have propane burners for cooking, photovoltaic lighting, mattresses and pillows, eating and cooking utensils, toilet paper, matches, and cleaning supplies. Hut users melt snow for water. Both huts are one level. Tagert sleeps 7 people (1 double, 5 singles - singles can be combined to make doubles) and Green Wilson sleeps 8 (2 doubles, 4 singles). Note: there is a minimum booking number of 4 spaces for reservations at either hut. Reserving both huts together requires a minimum of 8 spaces. NO DOGS!

Green Wilson Hut
Green Wilson hut is about 50 yards from Tagert.

Hut Location: Tagert and Green Wilson Huts are located approximately 50 meters apart, making them private enough for multiple parties, yet suffieciently close together for one large party to share. They are situated just below timberline in Pearl Basin, in the Elk Mountains between the towns of Crested Butte and Aspen.

Warning: The Alfred A. Braun Huts and Friends Hut are located in areas of known avalanche terrain with recurring avalanche cycles. Routes are not marked or maintained. [locator map]
