Re: PS sauna

Yes there is a sauna now that Polar Star and the Seipel Hut share. The owners rebuilt the sauna as a separate building that both cabins can use.

Re: Skiing options around Harry Gates?

Burnt Mountain is the main skiing area around the Harry Gates Hut. Most of the terrain up there is fairly low angle meadow skipping. There are some steeper runs on the North and East sides of Burnt Mtn but they get chocked out in thick timber fairly quickly so many of them are kinda short.

The Betty Bear Hut has some top rope areas near by along the road in. The Harry Gates Hut also has some climbing down in Lime Creek Canyon.

Re: Benedict to McNamara (or versa visa)

The main challenge skiing between Benedict and McNamara is that half of the route is totally unmarked because it crosses through a Primitive Wilderness area and we aren't allowed to mark trails through there. Re: Cistern capacity

It varies from hut to hut but most are around a 1000 gallons, but some are smaller. They rarely fill to the capacity unless we have a very wet, cool summer. Furthermore the water from these, even after purification, is not recommended for drinking. The upshot is what we tell everyone, do not rely on...

Re: Betty Bear descent all the way to Diamond J

If you wanted to ski from the 505 trail head all the way to Diamond J you best bet is to try and find some snow along the road (which may not be there depending on the plowing) and ski to Granite Lakes and then follow our trail from Granite Lakes up and over to Norrie and then on to the Diamond J. T...

Re: Hut with good terrain for snowkiting

Betty Bear would be a good option as the terrain up near Hagerman Pass is pretty wide open and can be very windy. The other option are the Benedict Huts. The meadows up there around Warren Lakes and the Lakes themselves are wide open but the wind may be hit or miss.
