Vance's to Jackal Jan 14-16 '19

Two bluebird days. Skied in from Ski Cooper to Vance's: 1:45. Did some skiing on Taylor Hill, another party went further to Chicago Ridge where there were some good runs. Vance's to Jackal via Cataract Creek: 7 hours. In hindsight, probably a better ski from Jackal to Vance's because more open meado...

McNamara's 3-27-16

Great trip into McNamara's on a sunny day. Took 3.5 hours from Upper Hunter Creek trailhead. Awesome views from the top of Bald Knob and the laps down were great. Stop at the stump to rip your skins and head back up. Van Horn Park had a lot of good terrain too which you can hit on the way out.

Polar Star Inn 3-30-16

Great overnight to the Polar Star Inn. We took the road from Yeoman Park to Fulford: 2 hours. Then another 1.5 hours up a smaller trail to get to the hut. Others took the Newcomer Spring Trail from Yeoman's. We went down that way: prettier but it was a bit rotted out at the bottom. (In hindsight we ...

Re: McNamara to Margys attempt, Near Disaster.

This is an important post. Hut to hut trips have always been an essential part of the hut adventure, but many users today seem more interested in beelining into a hut, making the closest backcountry turns they can find, and skiing out the next day. I know this is fun (and I have done it myself), but...

Margy's 1-17-16

Great trip into Margy's from Lenado. Took about 4 hours moving average speed: snowed the whole way in. Once there we met another group who was already there since yesterday. We made a few waist-deep laps right in front of the hut. Earlier that day the other group traversed over to the fields below M...

Benedict Huts 12/30/14

Great overnight to Fritz's. Starting at the upper Hunter Creek Trailhead (can be slightly confusing to find the Hunter Creek Cutoff Trail. Take HCC to 10th Mtn. Trail to Smuggler Mtn. Road. Then head toward Warren Lake)- it took about 3:45 with stops. A faster group with us did it in 3:20. The trail...

Betty Bear to Skinner (or not) 1/2014

Our party of two skied in to Betty Bear on Fri Jan 17 2014. Lovely trip down Road 505; took us just under 5 hrs (including stopping for lunch; pictures etc. Another group took 3 hrs and change). The last 1.5 miles of single track was steep but fine. Our plan was to continue on to Skinner the next da...
