Cistern capacity

Post by ColoradoNate » Thu Apr 18, 2013 9:55 pm

Does anyone have an idea on how big the cisterns are at the huts that have them? Don't need an exact figure. I'm trying to get a feel for how much water to budget with a big group. The trip is in early July so I hope that the cistern will be mostly full with June rain. Thanks!

It varies from hut to hut but most are around a 1000 gallons, but some are smaller. They rarely fill to the capacity unless we have a very wet, cool summer. Furthermore the water from these, even after purification, is not recommended for drinking. The upshot is what we tell everyone, do not rely on the cisterns for any of your drinking water.

Thanks! Good to know about the cistern water. At least it saves us from bringing a lot of water for dish washing.
