Questions about trip for beginners

We have a group of 3-4 males in our 20's in pretty good shape, but we do not have experience snowshoeing.

We were thinking about going to Ken's Cabin or the Section House during mid-March via the Boreas Pass Road Trailhead. I was wondering if you think this is reasonable for a group with our lack of experience?

Also if we reserved Ken's Cabin and ended up having 4 people, is that doable with having one person sleep on the floor?

Thank you for any advice you may have.

Ken's Cabin is rated for up to three people and three adults is pretty tight. It is much more suitable for a couple. You may want to look at the Section House rather than Ken's for 3-4 adult men. The trail in from the Breckenridge Boreas Pass TH is very strait forward - it is an old railroad grade that has been converted to a road and has no steep sections. It is long though, and if you have to break trail for part of the route it will increase the difficulty.

I think this is a very safe choice for your first hut... and section house, as the previous poster stated, is preferable over Ken's Cabin. It gets windy up there, but if you can hike to the ridge behind Section House you'll have great views.
