Trail Status to Peter Estin?

Post by lindseybrandt » Wed Dec 06, 2017 10:09 am

Has anyone accessed from Yeoman Park that can provide an update? We are headed up on Dec 15th. Via Trail 1873 (Ironedge Trail) Thank you.

Hey! We were just there 12/9-12/11. The road is dry from the trailhead until the Fulford Campground. From there we could have hiked nearly the entire way without any snowshoes or skis - with perhaps the exception of the section from the Ironedge saddle to the hut. There was enough snow coverage to have snowshoes or skis on the entire way up from the lake at the campground. Part of our group also came out on Ironedge, kept skins on almost all the way down because you had to be careful of ski placement. The other part of the group came out Hat Creek Road and there was snow coverage the entire way out with a couple very short dry sections. The bottom section of the road was very hard packed.

Have fun and bring something to filter pine needles out of the water.

@mcclardgal

Were you able to do any skiing above the hut?

We probably could have skiied off of Charles peak. We just hiked up there in snowshoes as we didn't know the conditions and talked about going back up with skis but got too distracted by whiskey and sledding after lunch at the hut. :) The open area just south of the hut was mostly dry and there was a good bit of snow just northwest of the hut however it seemed like there was alot just barely buried. Hopefully this storm tonight/tomorrow will help!! Have fun!
