The American Mountaineering Center, located in Golden CO, is looking to complete construction of the Bradford Washburn American Mountaineering Museum. This museum will be a place where visitors can learn about mountaineering history, conservation, and Colorado’s own mountaineering history. This will include an exhibit on the 10th Mountain Division and their days training in Camp Hale. In honor of the men who inspired and help make our hut system possible, we support this project and would encourage our hut users to support it as well. Please visit American Mountaineering Museum for more information.
5/16/07 The National Museum of Forest Service History
The National Museum of Forest Service History, a nonprofit corporation, has started a campaign to build a museum to commemorate United States Forest Service history. Their goal is to “open a national museum in 2009 in Missoula, Montana to preserve and to interpret the forest and grassland conservation story of the last 100 years, including the partnerships that have enriched the forest and grasslands of the United States.” As a member of one of these partnerships, we here at the 10th Mountain Division Hut Association support this effort. Without the cooperation of the US Forest Service and their willingness to work with us, the hut system would not be possible. We appreciate their conservation efforts and would invite our hut users to support this effort in whatever way they see fit. Below is a link to their website where you can find more information about their campaign and ways in which you can help. National Museum of Forest Service History
1/30/07 New Lynx Monitoring Project
10th Mountain Division Hut Association and the Colorado Division of Wildlife invite you to be part of a statewide effort to indentify and record lynx tracks. This information will be used by the Colorado Division of Wildlife (CDOW) to monitor lynx location and status. As part of a CDOW lynx reintroduction program, Canada lynx have been released in Colorado beginning in 1999. All released lynx are equipped with radio collars to enable CDOW researchers to monitor their location and status. Over time, some of these collars have been lost or are no longer transmitting. 10th Mountain fully supports this monitoring project because it represents good stewardship of the forest. Good information on how to recognize lynx tracks when you find them and familiarize yourself with the procedures to document the tracks and report them to the lynx researchers is available in the interpretive library at each hut and at the CDOW website.
