COVID-19 Booking Policies

COVID-19 Winter 2020/2021 Booking Policies

Starting August 24, 2020, we are suspending new winter reservations at all huts (except Braun and Friends'). During this time we will be reconfiguring existing reservations so that they meet all new booking minimums and requirements. Many reservations will not need to be changed, and those parties will receive an email that their booking is good to go. Groups that booked more spaces than new minimums allow, will also be notified and their reservation will be reduced accordingly and hut credit issued. And lastly, we won’t be able to honor all reservations – you will be notified if your trip has been cancelled and hut credit has been issued.

We anticipate this process will take about 4 to 6 weeks, but we’ll re-open ASAP! Please do not call us during this time as you will be notified by email of changes to your reservation.

For all new Winter 2020/2021 reservations, huts will be single-party only. A single-party refers to a family, or a group of friends and/or family that know each other. A single-party may be more than one household, as long as hut user responsibilities are met and Public Health Orders are observed. Capacities at many of our larger huts have been reduced and we also have new minimum booking requirements.

COVID-19 Summer 2020 Booking Policies

Hut reservations for summer 2020 are single-party only. A single-party refers to a family, or a group of friends and/or family that know each other. A single-party may be more than one household, as long as hut user responsibilities are met and Public Health Orders are observed. For larger-capacity huts (greater than or equal to 16 spaces), costs have been reduced in order to provide a financial incentive to have fewer people at the hut. Minimums and information by hut:

Hut User Expectations

The huts are open to public use only because local public health agencies have developed special considerations for lodging with shared quarters such as huts. 10th Mountain unequivocally supports these public health orders.

Hut visitors are required to follow these orders.

KITCHEN AND OTHER COMMON OR SHARED AREAS

Many individuals can be asymptomatic and still spread the virus.

SLEEPING AREAS

Sleeping in enclosed spaces increases the contact and exposure time that enables spread of COVID-19.

CLEANING AND DISINFECTING THE HUT

Hut visitors are expected to follow local and state protocols for social distancing and use of face masks, and are expected to clean and disinfect surfaces frequently touched upon arrival, regularly while at the hut, and upon departure. Below is a link to a hut cleaning checklist for hut users. 10th Mountain staff, who typically visit the huts once per week, use this same checklist and the same cleaning and disinfecting products.

The ability to keep the huts open depends on individual compliance with these requirements. All reservations and policies are subject to change.

Public Health Orders

Below are additional links to individual county health pages that outline each counties public health orders.

COVID-19 Hut Credit Information Specific to Braun and Friends Huts

Thank you for your understanding and support during this unusual time. The Alfred Braun Hut System and Friends Hut has issued 100% credit for all trips canceled through May 31, 2020 and the following information will help answer questions regarding this credit. Please keep in mind that it is subject to change if circumstances warrant.

  1. When does my COVID-19 credit expire? It expires May 31, 2021. Your trip must take place before that date which is a different policy than our avalanche policy. See booking dates below.
  2. Can I apply this credit online? Yes! Our online booking system now accepts payment via hut credit.
  3. Can I use this credit to make a donation to Alfred Braun Hut System or the Friends Hut? Yes, and we would be very grateful! This reduces our ability to keep the huts in good condition and available at affordable rates. Please call or email.
  4. Can I apply this credit to multiple trips? Yes, you can allocate the value of this credit however you prefer.
  5. I sold or bought hut space from another party on the forum – what should I do? Call us at your earliest convenience and we will issue hut credit accordingly.
  6. Can I transfer this credit? Yes, you can elect to transfer this to others including friends, family or an organization. Just let us know the name of the person or organization you would like to be able to use your credit.
  7. Can I apply this credit to non-Braun huts? Do I need a membership to make a Braun trip? Can I submit for Braun huts in the Winter Lottery? No, no, and no.
  8. When Can I Use My Credit? See below.
